I speak to many people on a weekly basis who are looking in to ways to gain good training in wall and floor tiling. And there are many tiling training centres around the UK offering short courses to anybody who would like to learn the skills. The problem is, most of the training centres are far too independent and don’t help you towards your National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) which will be a requirement by 2010 for any work on building sites (or so I hear through the grape vine).

Currently there are many training centres trying to better their tiling courses via different routes, some with the help of the Construction Industry Training Board (C.I.T.B) and some without. The problem is, wanna-be tilers are still booking tiling courses with the likes of tiling training centres who are not supported by the CITB. Why? you ask. When surely they will need to gain this qualification to work in the near future.

Well, to be honest, I don’t know why, but maybe one of their reasons is the fact that they are unaware of what’s actually going on, maybe they are just being sold a course and they are happy with that.

Well now the times have changed!

There are now training centres supported by the C.I.T.B and there are those that are not. I’d want to book with one that is approved by the training board to be completely honest, why wouldn’t I?

Chase Tiling Academy is a tiling only training centre approved by the C.I.T.B to carry out courses in wall and floor tiling. They are expanding already and have taken on the unit next to their current facilities in Cannock Staffordshire. They’re a short drive from the M6 Motorway and have a team second to none.

My personal note: If you’ve been tiling for some time and don’t have an NVQ, don’t be shy, give them a call. They can help existing and new tilers gain the grades required soon throughout the UK.
